Amazon Introduces AI-Powered Customer Review Summaries

Amazon has a new feature that uses AI to create summaries of customer reviews and display them on product pages. However, you probably won’t see it now.

Amazon has launched a new feature that uses artificial intelligence to generate and display summaries of customer reviews on product pages. The purpose of the feature is to help shoppers quickly understand general feedback and product highlights before purchasing.

The feature is currently available in the US for several products to a “subset of mobile customers” and may be expanded in the future, according to Amazon’s Monday message. The feature is part of Amazon’s efforts to create generative AI applications that augment and improve customer experiences, as Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said earlier this month. The new feature offers a short paragraph highlighting product features and customer opinions often mentioned in written reviews, as well as pre-made keywords for specific product attributes that customers can click on to see more information, such as ease of use. The summaries only use verified purchases from Amazon’s trusted review corpus, ensuring customers can easily understand the community’s opinions at a glance, Vaughn Schermerhorn, Amazon’s director of community buying, wrote in the post.

A previous report from CNBC gave us our first look at this feature. The report referred to a children’s fighting toy called “Magic Mixies,” and the AI-generated summary emphasized that while some customers of the toy liked it for its “fun, looks, value, performance, quality, loading and leakage,” most. it seemed that $100 was too high a toy.

In short, the problems that customers experience with product quality and load capacity were also discussed. Amazon says the AI customer review summaries are based on customer feedback, and that it may expand the feature to other categories and customers in the coming months.
