The SIM card slot on the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones is on the left.
The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are expected to be officially launched in October this year, with several updates compared to their predecessors. So far, leaks have detailed hardware specifications for this year’s Pixel 8 lineup. Now a report has surfaced online suggesting that the upcoming Pixel 8 phones will ditch the physical SIM card slot in favor of eSIMs. An ESIM card allows Pixel 8 users to connect to their carrier without a physical SIM card in the phone.
Apple’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models were also launched in the US without a physical SIM card slot. An image of the vanilla Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro was leaked earlier this year by whistleblower Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) in collaboration with SmartPrix. Citing these images, tipster Mishaal Rahman (@MishaalRahman) claims that the Pixel 8 series may debut as eSIM-only smartphones in at least some regions. Rahman explains that the left-side SIM card slots are missing from the renders and suggests that this is not an accidental omission. However, according to a
SmartPrix report, the Pixel 8 smartphones will have a SIM card tray on the left rear. OnLeaks told Rahman that anything his partner claimed was not said in his tweet did not come from him. That said, the speculation about a SIM slot on the left spine of the phone could be SmartPrix’s own interpretation of the renders.
