Speaking at a US-India Strategic Partnership Forum event, Microsoft’s President and Vice Chairman, Brad Smith, emphasized the importance of India exporting AI-skilled talents. Smith stressed that safeguarding democracies requires sustaining economic growth through innovative means.
Smith highlighted that India’s future involves not only sending talent abroad but also prioritizing individuals with AI expertise. He underscored the significance of responsible AI, which should prioritize values such as security, privacy, and inclusivity.
According to Smith, AI’s role is to intelligently boost productivity, necessitating collaborations between educators, entrepreneurs, and nations like India and the US. He pointed out that India has contributed significantly to global talent pools, with examples like Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO.
Smith’s remarks came after a discussion with India’s Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on bridging the skill gap in the US-India partnership. Chandrasekhar noted that India has established skills centers in 30 countries to address local talent demands, particularly post-Covid.
Chandrasekhar emphasized India’s heightened focus on digital skills, driven by the pervasive influence of technology across sectors. This approach has enabled India to transform from being overlooked to becoming a sought-after source of talented individuals, even by countries previously hesitant to consider Indian talent.
