The upcoming Nubia smartphone might feature a rear camera module with a thickness almost matching that of the device’s body.

Nubia is in the process of developing a new smartphone boasting a significantly upgraded camera system, as per details disclosed by a reliable source. An image of a leaked prototype, positioned alongside the existing Nubia Z50S Pro smartphone, has emerged online. In comparison to the Nubia Z50S Pro, the forthcoming model showcases a notably larger rear camera module intended to accommodate a 35mm camera furnished with a 1-inch sensor, as reported by the informant. As of now, the company has not divulged any specifics about its intentions to introduce this new smartphone.

The image of the purported flagship Nubia smartphone was leaked by the Chinese source “Digital Chat Station” on Weibo. The prototype is juxtaposed with the recently launched Nubia Z50S Pro in China. Apart from the evident disparity in the rear camera module’s size on the unreleased device, both phones present an almost indistinguishable appearance, hinting at the possibility that the company might introduce it as the premium model within the Z50S series.

According to Digital Chat Station, the forthcoming Nubia smartphone will incorporate a 35mm camera coupled with a 1-inch sensor. The primary camera of the handset will employ a Sony IMX989 sensor, as disclosed by the informant. The source further notes that the company needs to “fine-tune the volume” prior to the smartphone’s launch, potentially causing a delay in its release.

A direct comparison of the two smartphones underscores that the 1-inch sensor on the Nubia prototype necessitates considerably more space in contrast to the 1/1.49-inch camera sensor featured on the Nubia Z50S Pro. Although the rear camera module on the latter device also slightly protrudes from the rear panel, it seems that users might need to utilize a protective cover for the protruding module, similar to Google’s Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 smartphone series.

Given the remarkable resemblance to the Nubia Z50S Pro—except for the camera aspect—it is plausible that the upcoming smartphone might boast similar specifications. The device launched in China in July is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, encompasses a 50-megapixel triple rear camera arrangement, and showcases a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,200 nits.
