Apple is gearing up to reveal its latest iPhone 15 series on September 12 at their Apple Park headquarters in California. The invite showcases a mysterious graphic along with the word “Wonderlust,” hinting at an exciting event that may also feature new Apple Watch, MacBook, or AirPods releases.
For Indian Apple enthusiasts, the good news is that iPhones have been launching in India alongside their global release for the past five years, starting with the iPhone X. This trend is likely to continue with the iPhone 15 series.
A significant change this time around could be the timing of the ‘made-in-India’ iPhone 15. Reports suggest that Apple is aiming to narrow the gap between the Indian launch and the global release, possibly even revealing it simultaneously in India. In 2022, iPhones manufactured in India started reaching the market within a month of the global launch. This year, the delay, if any, is expected to be just a few days.
Apple plans to initially meet the local demand for India-made iPhone 15 devices, especially during the festive season. Exporting these devices, including to Europe and the US, is likely to commence in December 2023. India’s role in Apple’s global production has grown significantly, thanks to initiatives like the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for smartphones. In the June quarter of FY24, iPhone exports from India surged, making it a substantial contributor to electronics and mobile exports in the country.
